That's true, and it showed during the little game time that Vardy got.
However, we needed a different approach to our attack.
We were way too ponderous in that regard.
For all the plaudits that Southgate got for the way he and the squad comported themselves, our general tactical approach was poor. We needed to move the ball forward more quickly.
I (genuinely) bemoaned the fact that we didn't have the more direct approach that Allardyce would have brought.
In the end, it cost us.

Absolutely O1BB.
We’ve won most of what there is to win at a youth level from the 21s down and the difference between their development and those of their peers in other countries is the Premierleague and the clubs within.
The FA should mandate 2 or 3 English starters every game, but the PL is so powerful now I don’t think they can.
It’s a shame as our lads learn a lot off the foreign boys only to be disguarded for cheaper, more experienced imports.
Bit like the country as a whole really.

Thats the problem,he's all we have. As i said way back in this thread the lack of English talent is the price being paid for the all singing and dancing premier league.

Vardy dosnt fit the system,his strength is running on to a ball played at pace,having it played short into his feet is no good to him. He needs to run on to the ball rather than pick it up and carry it.

Golden boot but shouldn’t make team of the tournament.
Typical Y word, be interesting to see if he goes to shit next season. For England’s sake I hope he doesn’t as he’s all we’ve got.

He came up with two very good striker's goals against Tunisia, and was clinical from the spot.
But apart from that contributed nothing of value.
His unassailable position causes me to suspect that Southgate has something against Vardy

Cant argue with his record,you dont score as many goals as he has if your'e no good. Lineaker and Greaves (just to name 2) proved that you dont have to be a great footballer to be a prolific goal scorer so for me he is short of world class. And i wouldnt have him as my captain. Got nothing against him,seems like a decent bloke,i just dont see him as a leader.

Not world class but not far short.The miss and it was a bad one would have put us in the final.If he wins the golden boot and it's looking likely it will be one of the easiest ever.Bit of a passenger the last two games makes me wonder if he's 100% fit.

Once defenders spotted that VAR would not allow them to spear-tackle Kane in the penalty box the game was up. For England and Kane.
Kane was generally mediocre in this tournament, but remains our only world-class player.

He is without a doubt one of the best strikers in the world, his goal record and work rate is incredible.
He missed a couple of chances against Croatia and all of a sudden he’s “bang average” I wish we had a few players as bang average as him 😂

Kane got played in one on one with the keeper from 6 yds
When he couldn’t score that the ball came back to him and he had it two yards from goal on his right foot. He hit the post
Later he had a cross played right onto his head when he was clear 6 yds from goal. It skewed off his 50p head wide of the target.
A top class striker in a big match has to finish those. Like say Cavani did in that game before he was injured and missed the next match.

He is an outstanding finisher, an instinctive striker. However, in other elements of the game he is no better than average. He always seems to think he has longer on the ball than he actually has and frequently gets caught in possession. That's why it was a mistake to have him playing deeper for England the other night. I don't think he would necessarily be a success at Real Madrid, where I would have thought they would want a striker with a more complete set of skills.
